Today was almost windless and cloudless so it was pretty warm below decks, but I made it through the "office" day with no problems. The varnishers began today, starting at around 10AM and using a bit of teak cleaner and water to do the first wash of the cockpit table and leaves. There is some significant staining that is beyond the simple cleaner they had, so I mixed up a dilute hydrochloric acid solution and treated the spotted areas and then mixed up some more and did the whole tabletop and leaves since I wanted a uniform color in the end. The varnishers left, but will be back tomorrow to continue the preparation work. After the cleaned sections had dried they looked much better, and with some sanding should look like new teak and be ready for varnishing.
I had an early pizza dinner at 17:00 because of the impending curfew, but the combination of sitting in the sun, a hot pepperoni pizza and judicious use of the spicy oil had me sweating profusely and I had to take another shower to cool down! But the food was tasty and I don't regret having eaten it (but next time I'll choose a seat in the shade).
